There has been a lot of interest in the results of the one day protest that was undertaken by a large number of internet sites to protest the proposed SOPA and PIPA legislation in the US.
IT World Canada has recently posted an interesting article which outlines what happened in the US and why this legislation had to be shelved as a result of the protest. As I outlined in a recent blog post Social Media Affects SMB Office Document Strategies the impact of this activity on many of the traditional lobbying efforts in the US is significant. It shows us the type of impact these new communication tools can have on all business.
The IT World Canada Article expands on this and shows even more why this is an unprecedented event.
No matter whether you agree with the legislation or don't it shows us how influential the internet and social media is becoming and underlines why this is not an area of communication that business can ignor.
Has social media been a part of your communication strategy? If so how do you use it? if not are you looking at it?
