As I watch the discussions in the IT community about the relative merits of Windows 8 I can't help but wonder if Microsoft's big gamble will pay off.  Since they have such a dominant position in the desktop OS market on the surface is seems strange that they have introduced a new OS that seems to be more focused on mobile than the desktop.  Opinions vary on whether this was a mistake or good strategy.

Argo Makes the Case For Cross Cut Shredding

I went to the movies this past weekend, something that I have not done very often.  I went to see Argo the movie which tells the story of the 6 American embassy employees who took refuge in the Canadian Ambassador's residence during the Iranian hostage crisis in the late 70's. Central to the final sections of the movie is the capture of images of one of the fugitive employees through reassembling the strip cut shreds of documents from the embassy since the documents had not been put through a cross cut shredder prior to the militants capturing the embassy.

Document management systems (DM) are all about building more efficiency in the filing processes and filing access in an office.  Making the effort to install and learn the intricacies of document management is not a decision to be taken lightly.  On the other hand my experience in our work in the Burlington area tells me that doing so is inevitably a good one and can lead organizations to see a quantum leap in efficiency in their operations affected by document production, filing and retrieval.
